Vitamins and minerals, referred to collectively as micronutrients, have important influences on the health of pregnant women and the growing fetus.

In pregnant women moderate to severe deficiencies of iron, zinc and folic acid have been shown to increase risk of low birth weight, pregnancy complications and birth defects.

Periconceptional multivitamin supplementation reduces the risk of serious birth defects, premature delivery, and low birth weight by 50%. Improves maternal health during pregnancy.

Carbonyl iron is an ideal therapeutic agent for the treatment of Anemia.

More than 98% pure
Effective and inexpensive
Tolerable side effects

Carbonyl iron has been shown to be well absorbed and utilized for hemoglobin synthesis, both in experimental animals and in humans The requirements for ionization and solubilization seem to account for the safety of carbonyl iron.

The slow rate of solubilization results in a more prolonged absorption, responsible for the low toxicity of carbonyl iron.

In addition, the rate of solubilization is restricted by the rate of gastric acid production.

Zinc is an integral component of many metalloenzymes in the body. It is involved in the synthesis and stabilization of proteins, DNA, RNA and plays a structural role in ribosomes and membranes.

Addition of zinc to iron increases hemoglobin levels as zinc affects Insulin like growth factor (lGF)-1 that plays a role in regulation of RBC production

The principal role of folate is to transfer one-carbon units in a variety of enzymatic reactions that are related to the synthesis of DNA, RNA and protein.

Indications:
Iron deficiency: For the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia

Iron supplement: As a dietary supplement for iron -Prophylaxis of iron, zinc and folic acid deficiencies during pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse effects:
Nausea
Vomiting
Constipation
Diarrhoea
Stools may appear darker in color.

Special Precautions:
History of peptic ulcer, sever renal failure. Iron & tetracycline bind together leading to impairment of absorption.

Dosage:
One capsule daily or as directed by the Physician.

Drug interactions:

Antacids, cimetidine: GI absorption of iron may be reduced
Chloramphenicol: Serum iron levels may be increased
Levodopa: forms chelates with iron salts, decreasing levodopa absorption and serum levels
Levothyroxine: the efficacy of levothyroxine may be reduced, resulting in hypothyroidism
Methyldopa: extent of methyldopa absorption may be reduced, resulting in decreased efficacy
Penicillamine: Marked reduction in GI absorption of penicillamine may occur
Quinolones: GI absorption of quinolones may be decreased
Tetracyclines: concomitant use within 2 hours may decrease absorption and serum levels of tetracyclines.
