| Pharmacology: |
The
active principles of Sana are absorbed from the gut and are excreted
largely into the colon, where they stimulate peristaltic movement
like normal bowel function. Saunf is an aromatic carminative.
It is given for the treatment of flatulence. Spogel derived from
the husk of mucilaginous seeds absorbs water and has a remarkable
power of absorbing bacterial and other toxins. The action is purely
mechanical in producing smooth semisolid stool
